Testing new bobbin cases Singer 319k and 306k.
Having put 20u bobbin cases into these machines I did some initial testing with needles I had in stock. But my biggest needles, size 16/100 don’t handle the heavy duty thread I like to use (Gutterman M782), the eyes are too small and the thread can be damaged by the needle. I bought some Schmetz Jean needles in size 18/110 and threaded them up on both machines. The thread does through the needle very easily, and the needles are tough enough to manage 4 layers of 8oz Oxford nylon with a heavy water proof coating. I turned up the low speed setting on my 319K digital controller to allow for the heavier fabric and did some test stitching on both machines. I had to adjust the tension of the 319K bobbin, as I had installed it without adjustment when I first got it. The needle, thread and the machine worked perfectly with straight stitching and zig zag stitching at full bight width, no issues with needle strike on either machine, and the tension was adjustable for perfect stitching in both machines. I tried a couple of fashion discs with no issues.
So what do I do with a 10 pack of 206×13 90/14 needles I no longer really have a need for ?😀
