broken
A single hairline crack winds through the dewy sky
A black gossamer thread unravelling the black mountains
A reflected line scribbled on the silver estuary.
Ever-emerging fissures shatter the shiny surface sending
Shards of water to slash the lucid air,
A wounded spirit who howls and bleeds,
Drowning the barren trees in ghostly invisible blood.
Dark slender fingers that desperately reach for the light,
Tangled, leafless and despairing for their demise.
Crooked spidery limbs that echo
The obsidian web spun across the cloudless pink day.
A web that grows
Spreads
Expands until
The sky implodes, a crushed eggshell crashing down
Into a cloud of dust at my feet.
And the broken world lies still,
Quietly dying in the cold red glow
That comes from a wilting sun.
